Culture and international relations have come closer in the past twenty years. Still many areas are open to further research. As part of Cold War studies, historians have explored the links between national culture and strategic and political thinking. Some of them now question traditional international relations periodization and favor macro-historic themes such as globalization (leading to studies on migrations as well as international non-governmental organisations).
