International audienceIt is usual to refer to the first fragment of the Euripides’ Autolykos to define the diets of Greek athletes. But the nature of the text, a satyric drama, and the absence of information on the context of the tirade, should be a first element of reflection on what is generally considered as a reference text. Moreover, the conditions of transmission of the fragment, which has only come to us through indirect sources and is inserted into a set of references which betrays the intention of the citator, are hardly taken into account.
