The article presents reflections on Sienkiewicz’s relationship with foreign nations, especially those who in the course of history have become hostile to the Poles, and even hateful, and in particular with the Russian nation. The so-called “Russian question” has been dealt with here based on the New Testament ethic of universal forgiveness in the context of both individual human formation, as well as in terms of the shaping and protection of national identity. The thesis of the sketch comes down to the opinion that the commandment to love our enemies formulated by Christ is in the studied texts of Sienkiewicz a foundation for authentic human relationships and an essential element of the author’s socio-political programme.Sylwia Karpowicz-Sł...
