The Enlightenment in Spain: Classic and New Historiographical Perspectives

Este capítulo ofrece una revisión historiográfica de la Ilustración española, situada tanto en el contexto de los estudios específicos como de las controversias más amplias suscitadas en el ámbito internacional: cuestiones de cronología, vínculos entre la Ilustración y la religión (más específicamente el catolicismo), circulación de ideas, aproximaciones intelectuales o más bien socioculturales, contraste y relación entre "centros" y "periferias", o entre Ilustraciones "radicales" y convencionales". El texto pone de relieve las nuevas perspectivas analíticas, muy especialmente las abiertas por los estudios sobre mujeres y género, sobre culturas "populares" y sobre dimensiones atlánticas e imperiales. Y al mismo tiempo, subraya la relación completa entre pasado y presente, muy en particular desde la dictadura franquista hasta la democracia, y la vicisitudes de las últimas décadas.787015European Research CouncilHorizon 2020/ERC-2017-Advanced Grant-787015This chapter presents a re-reading of the Spanish Enlightenment, in the context both of Spanish historiography and of the broader questions concerning international scholarship on the Enlightenment: issues of chronology, of Enlightenment and religion (specifically, catholicism), of translational circulation of ideas, of intellectual vs. cultural and social approaches, of “centres” and “peripheries”, of “radical” and “conventional” Enlightenments.
