Impact of methylphenidate n executive functions of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Curs: 2018/2019.Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one of the most prevalent neurodevelopmental disorders in children and adolescents. It is characterized by symptoms such as impulsivity and inattention, among others. To treat ADHD, Methylphenidate (MPH) is prescribed, which is a psychostimulant drug. This study aims to investigate whether this drug is really suitable for treating executive functions such as inhibitory control of behaviour, working memory and mental flexibility, since in research there is a contrast between different investigations. To this end, a bibliographic review has been carried out, through various databases such as PubMed, Medline, Psycarticles and Google Academic, focusing on the articles that were most relevant to the subject once the inclusion and exclusion criteria had been applied. The final articles indicate a positive assessment of MPH and demonstrate a significant improvement in a minimum period of three months of treatment in all the tests used. The results indicate that children who comply with treatment are faster in arithmetic aspects, quicker in finding correct solutions and have fewer errors, so it can be concluded that MPH is a good treatment for children with ADHD. In addition, much research emphasizes the importance of combining drug therapy (through the administration of MPH) with cognitive-behavioral therapy.El Trastorno por Déficit de Atención e Hiperactividad (TDAH) es uno de los trastornos del neurodesarrollo que más prevalencia tiene en niños/as y adolescentes. Éste se caracteriza por síntomas como la impulsividad y falta de atención, entre otras. Para tratar el TDAH, se receta Metilfenidato (MFD), el cual es un fármaco psicoestimulante. Este estudio pretende investigar si realmente este fármaco es adecuado para tratar funciones ejecutivas como el control inhibitorio de la conducta, la memoria de trabajo y la flexibilidad mental, ya que en las investigaciones hay contraste entre los diferentes trabajos. Para ésto se ha realizado una revisión bibliográfica a través de varias bases de datos como PubMed, Medline, Psycarticles y Google Académico, centrándonos en los artículos que más se ceñían al tema una vez aplicados los criterios de inclusión y exclusión. Los artículos finales indican una valoración positiva sobre el MFD y demuestran una mejora significativa en un periodo mínimo de tres meses de tratamiento en todas las pruebas que se utilizan. Los resultados indican que los niños y niñas que cumplen con el tratamiento son más rápidos en aspectos aritméticos, más rápidos en encontrar soluciones correctas y tienen menos errores, por lo que se puede concluir que el MFD es un buen tratamiento para niños y niñas con TDAH.
