One of the most effective recruiting weapons for black troops during the Civil War, this \u27Men of Color\u27 broadside appealed to and convinced many of the first black men to fill the regimental rolls at Camp William Penn. Its words evoked the horrors of slavery, advocated saving the future for black children, and disproved claims that African-American men were cowardly and unintelligent. The broadside also notes the “valor and heroism” of black soldiers at such battles as Port Hudson and Milliken’s Bend. --Donald Scott, Sr.https://digitalcommons.lasalle.edu/philadelphia_civil_war_2/1009/thumbnail.jp
