Sahara malien : environnement, populations et industries préhistoriques

The great moments of prehistoric occupation coincide with a series of favorable lacustrine episodes.Stations of the Lower Paleolithic, without going down beyond 19 ° N, show many affinities with the final Ugartian of the North-Western Sahara.The aterian industries are spread over three periods, between 40,000 and 20,000 years, the most recent of which also reaches the Azouad lake spreading.The Neolithic is established only at the end of the Holocene optimum. The tools show various influences. To the north, the facies of Oumm el Assel recalls the Neolithic productions of Capsian tradition. The facies of Hassi el Abiod, associated with a rich bone industry, in the region north-west of Araouane, is the work of African cro-magnoids (mechtoïdes). To the east, the facies of erg In-Sâkane is related to the Saharo-Sudanese Neolithic in Hoggar. It evolves with Proto-Mediterranean populations, at least from 4500 B.P. The Ounanian, between erg Foum el Alba and the cliff of Khnachich, may derive from industries of Ténéré. With the beginnings of aridification, the stations encroach on the previous deposits. The phenomenon is sensitive in the Pays rouge. In the plains and valleys north-west of the Iforas, an original culture of "sites with enclosures" is developing, where cattle farming is emerging. In addition to the Tilemsi, people are retreating to the shores of the new Inner Niger Delta. In Kobadi, in the Malian Sahel, we find the last representatives of African cro-magnoids, dating back to 3300 B.P., in a paleolacustrine context similar to that of Hassi el Abiod.Les grands moments de l'occupation préhistorique concordent avec une série d'épisodes lacustres favorables. Les stations du Paléolithique inférieur, sans descendre au delà du 19°N, manifestent de nombreuses affinités avec l'Ougartien final du Sahara nord-occidental. Les industries atériennes s'échelonnent sur trois périodes, entre 40 000 et 20 000 ans, dont la plus récente atteint aussi les épandages lacustres de l'Azouad.Le Néolithique se met en place seulement à la fin de l'optimum holocène. Les outillages manifestent des influences diverses. Au nord, le faciès d'Oumm el Assel rappelle les productions du Néolithique de tradition capsienne. Le faciès de Hassi el Abiod, associé à une riche industrie osseuse, dans la région au nord-ouest d'Araouane, est l'oeuvre de cro-magnoïdes africains (mechtoïdes). A l'est, le faciès de l'erg In-Sâkane est à rattacher au Néolithique saharo-soudanais du Hoggar. Il évolue avec des populations proto-méditerranéennes, du moins à compter de 4500 B.P. L'Ounanien, entre l'erg Foum el Alba et la falaise du Khnachich, peut dériver d'industries du Ténéré. Avec les débuts de l'aridification, les stations empiètent sur les dépôts antérieurs. Le phénomène est sensible dans le Pays rouge. Dans les plaines et vallées au nord-ouest des Iforas se développe une culture originale de "sites à enceinte", où l'élevage bovin fait son apparition. Outre le Tilemsi, les populations se retirent sur les rives du nouveau delta intérieur du Niger. On retrouve à Kobadi dans le Sahel malien les derniers représentants des cro-magnoïdes africains, datés de 3300 B.P., dans un contexte paléolacustre similaire à celui de Hassi el Abiod
