Ritradurre una carta costituzionale: la Costituzione americana in diacronia (Retranslating a constitution: The U.S. Constitution in Italy in a diachronic perspective)

After analyzing the issue of retranslation from the perspective of translation studies, it describes a parallel corpus of 8 texts (the source-text and its 7 Italian translations, ranging over two centuries, from 1797 to 2010). A comparative analysis of few selected passages from these translations is offered in order to highlight the different approaches to some peculiar aspects of the source-text. Some tentative conclusions are offered on the basis of contemporary translation theories
