Svetlana Ubushaeva, about the worship of the masters

Svetlana talks about the ritual of gazr-us tyaklgn (a worship of the spiritual masters of land and water sources): At the end of August, before children leave for school, we conduct the ritual of gazr-us tyaklgn. We gather in a certain place and conduct the ritual under the guidance of our elders. Sometimes, when in our village people die within a short interval from each other, we also go to a place called Zurumta and conduct this ritual. That place is where a temple stood in the past. During draughts we also do this ritual to call the rain. I cannot say anything about how a sacrificial sheep is slaughtered, because it is done by our elders. Our elders tie the sacrificial sheep to the raft and release the raft into the water. All people light the candles that they bring themselves. We have an old image of Tsagan Aav which we also bring for such rituals. Meat and tea are cooked separately. Then a prayer service is held. During the ritual we do not drink vodka, only eat met and drink tea. Old men eat the heart of a sheep.
