International audienceThis paper examines the role of magic in the genre of historiographic metafiction as defined by Linda Hutcheon. Through the analysis of three novels (Midnight's Children, Slaughterhouse-Five, and The Book Thief), it analyses the political role played by magical realism, as well as a type of magic at the level of the narrative. Using the tools offered by narrative theory, it offers a distinction between the unnatural and the non-conventional, thus bringing to the centre the role of subjectivity and polyphony in these narratives.Cette communication se penche sur le rôle de la magie dans le genre de la métafiction historiographique comme défini par Linda Hutcheon.
