The existing Geography knowledge in the study programme of the elementary school is the main focus of our research. In this work, we seek to analyse how the Geography subject contents are taught and organized through an analytical cutout that includes the study programme of the elementary school of the Municipal Secretary of Education and Sports of Pelotas City/RS and the study programme of the Pedagogy course of the Federal University of Pelotas.The official programmes documents (Diretrizes Curriculares Nacionais and Parâmetros Curriculares Nacionais) were investigated and it was possible to identify some gaps about their guidelines and orientations in the elementary school as much as in the courses of initial graduation in Pedagody.
