Health concerns of women street vendors-a case study of Karnataka

At the outset the problems on women is a burning issue in India. On one hand women are harassed physically as well as mentally in the society on the other hand there is no social security for women in terms of health and sanitation facilities. Street vending is an important activity related to informal sector in urban areas. Majority of street vendors are illiterate or educated only at primary level, they have low skill and poor economic condition. Due to this issue many of the people who fall in this stream, choose to be street vendors and earn for their livelihood. Women are considered as the vulnerable section of the society; they are physically incapable of executing some works compared to men. The contribution of women in the informal sector has gone unrecognized as their labor is termed to be very significant to the growing economy. Despite the great work that women street vendors have contributed to the society, yet their work has been facing subsequent challenges in terms of finance, health and sanitary. This paper concentrates on women street vendors and their health concerns in their daily business. In this paper many samples will be taken as to determine the lack of basic amenities which are dealt by them in daily life. This paper is based on doctrinal and non doctrinal work and the data are collected from books, journals, news paper, articles and Government notifications and field work.
