Methylation of N6-adenosine (m6 A) in mRNA is an important posttranscriptional gene regulatory mechanism in eukaryotes. m6 A provides a binding site for effector proteins (“readers”) that influence pre-mRNA splicing, mRNA degradation, or translational efficiency.
