Subsequently, an altered irradiance and temperature regime in the water column may affect the performance of primary producers and change competitive structures. The brown, subtidal macroalgae Desmarestia menziesii and D. anceps are ecosystem engineers and of extreme importance for the Antarctic coastal ecosystem.
