The relationship between public honorific statues and funerary reliefs carved in western Asia Minor, mostly in Smyrna, is, for Hellenistic times, a wide and rich case study. It concerns, of course, the history of honorific statues, but also, more widely, the presentation of self in the Late Hellenistic Greek city. This study intends to explore the links between the two types of images (statues and reliefs) from iconographical, typological and statistical points of view. It focuses on the problem of their production and reception in a civic context. The paper leads to conclusions on the use of statuary models, on the conditions of their reproduction within the frame of different media, and also on the weight of civic honors in the culture of...
