Unrecognized Microlepidoptera : more than 750 species endangered in France. Defence plea for a neglected basic research (Insecta, Lepidoptera). The biology and early stages of french Microlepido¬ ptera remain unknown for at least 770 species (22.5 % of the described taxa). Thus, the protection of this fauna and natural biotas is very difficult to acheive correctly, because of the lack of fundamental researches concerning the biology of these insects. The cases of the Pterophoridae and Coleophoridae are exemplary and demonstrate that this scope can be reached rapidly. Recent works have lead to the discovery of the biology of 94 % of the Pterophoridae and 90 % of the Coleophoridae, against 96 % of the french 'Rhopalocera'. Searchers in this f...
