The term “diaspora”, frequently used in the English-speaking world about Caribbean writers, is quite unusual in francophone literature. This reveals different theoretical approaches. In fact, apart from the Négritude writers who dealt with an African diaspora in the first half of the 20th century, French Caribbean writers have expressed the idea of a specific culture and identity rooted in the West Indies. The process of “créolisation” shed light on the new “creole” origins of people who were initially without origins. “Exile” was then viewed as an uprooted movement.
