Computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography (PET) involve ionizing radiation and are routinely used in preclinical and clinical environments. The radiation burden to animals and humans needs to be addressed. In this thesis the radiation dosimetry of 18F-radiopharmaceuticals in humans and animals was investigated and a more ethical and economic approach to preclinical dosimetry is presented. Also the dosimetry of the microCT eXplore 120 was assessed.Animals are exposed to significant amounts of radiation in longitudinal studies from both, PET and CT, which researchers should take into account. The studied 18F-radiopharmaceuticals were considered safe for human use from a radiation point of view
