A questionnaire based on health belief models and thetheory of planned action was answered by 178 women, on theirknowledge and practice of breast self-exam. (BSE). Results show a good level of knowledge about general health care and BSE. Beliefs aboutdoing BSE were favorable, but laziness, personal worries andforgetfulness were presented as the main barriers to its regular practice.Among the variables of the planned action model two of them influencedthe intention of performing BSE; the opinions of relevant others and theexperience of prior practice, explaining 24% of the variance in thebehavioral intention.
