Estudo anatômico da madeira de Acanthosyris spinescens (Mart. et Eichl.) Gris. (Santalaceae)

The gross macroscopic and microscopic wood structure of Acanthosyris spinescens (Mart. et Eichl.) Gris. (Santalaceae) are described. Quantitative data from the different cellular types and tissues, as well as photomicrographs of the wood, are furnished. The wood structure is checked with the anatomical literature of the genus Acanthosyris and Santalaceae. The interesting radial structure of this wood, composed mostly by multi-seriate rays the dissect from large to smaller units. forming aggregate rays and sheath cells, is analysed with respect to its ontogeny.O trabalho descreve as características gerais, macroscópicas e microscópicas da madeira de Acanthosyris spinescens (Mart. et Eichl.) Gris., espécie conhecida no Rio Grande do Sul como sombra de touro. São fornecidos dados quantitativos dos elementos celulares constituintes do lenho e fotomicrografias da madeira. A estrutura anatômica é comparada com informações da literatura para o gênero Acanthosyris e família Santalaceae. A curiosa estrutura radial, composta em sua maioria de raios multi-seriados que se separam em unidades menores, com agregados de raios e células envolventes, é analisada quanto a sua ontogenia
