William Blake was a Doppelbegabung, or a multi-talented artist. He demonstrated aptitude for both imagistic and verbal arts and had the intention to join them, inextricably, in Songs of Innocence and of Experience. The present study aims at investigating how such a work was created, with its verbal and pictorial texts put in a mutual complementary position. We tried to observe, through the study of his manuscripts, if the man of images was predominant over the man of words, or the other way around.
