GERENCIAMENTO DE RESÍDUOS SÓLIDOS - A IMPORTÂNCIA DA EDUCAÇÃO AMBIENTAL NO PROCESSO DE IMPLANTAÇÃO DA COLETA SELETIVA DE LIXO – O CASO DE IJUÍ/RS

This study's main objective is to investigate the importance of environmental education in theprocess of implementation of garbage collection in Ijuí/RS. Additionally we sought to identify andassess whether there are specific programs of environmental education in garbage collection inthe municipality of Ijuí; see the effective participation of the population in the process of garbagecollection, and even check what actions actually provide a successful garbage collection.Interviews were conducted with representatives of the Municipality, as the City Department ofEnvironment, Ministry of Works and Planning, and the company that provides garbage collectionin the municipality. A program of selective collection and conducted the population tends todevelop a new mindset on issues involving the economy and environmental preservation. Ijuísucceeded in establishing the system of selective collection, but there were problems in theprocess of driving, lack of political interest on environmental and bureaucratic obstacles that mayalso contribute to the lack of preparedness of the population through environmental education.The changes in the habits of the population to acquire the need to separate their waste is themost difficult because it requires effort and patience, so all the issues involving the selectivecollection must be well informed and taken seriously by everyonehttp://dx.doi.org/10.5902/223611703858Este estudo tem como principal objetivo investigar a importância da Educação Ambiental no processo de implantação da coleta seletiva de lixo em Ijuí/RS. Adicionalmente buscou-se identificar e avaliar se existem programas específicos de Educação Ambiental em coleta seletiva de lixo no município de Ijuí; constatar a efetiva participação da população no processo da coleta seletiva de lixo; e ainda verificar quais as ações que realmente proporcionam o sucesso da coleta seletiva de lixo. Foram realizadas entrevistas com representantes do Poder Público local, como a Secretaria Municipal do Meio Ambiente, Secretaria de Obras e de Planejamento, e a empresa que presta a coleta de lixo no município. Um programa de coleta seletiva bem conduzido tende a desenvolver na população uma nova mentalidade sobre questões que envolvem a economia e a preservação ambiental. Ijuí conseguiu implantar o sistema de coleta seletiva, mas observou-se problemas de condução no processo, falta de interesse político na questão ambiental e também entraves burocráticos que podem contribuir para a falta da preparação da população através da Educação Ambiental. A mudança de hábito da população para que adquira a necessidade de separar o lixo que produz é a parte mais difícil, pois requer esforço e paciência, por isso todas as questões que envolvem a coleta seletiva devem ser bem esclarecidas e levadas a sério por todos
