Gerações produtivas e carreiras: o que as mulheres da Geração Y querem?

Despite the attention that Generation Y has received in recent times, studies that map the attitudes related to work of these individuals has devoted little attention to understanding the differences that gender can produce in the same generational group. However, we believe that gender differences should be better understood, because, according to the IBGE (2012), women represent 45.4% of the current Brazilian labor force. The growing importance of women in the labor market brings the challenge for organizations to attract and retain that portion of the workforce, whose demands are not necessarily equal those of men. The scarcity of studies on the expectations related to career of Gen Y women motivated the present work, which sought to understand the desires of young professionals with regard to the construction of their professional careers. To answer these questions we carried out a qualitative research, interviewing young women born between 1980 and 2000. We tried to understand what these professionals expect from its insertion in the labor market. The results confirm the analysis of the descriptions of the recent literature on Yrs, because the interviewees proved eager for success, professional recognition and attractive remuneration, but also highlight differences and indicate some specifics aspects related to the gender considerations, as expressed by these young woman, which expect to lower their work dedication when they become mothers and wives.Apesar da atenção que a Geração Y vem recebendo, nos últimos tempos, os estudos que mapeiam as atitudes desses indivíduos relacionadas ao trabalho têm dedicado pouca atenção para compreender as diferenças que o gênero pode produzir, em um mesmo grupo geracional. Todavia, entende-se que as diferenças de gênero precisam ser melhor compreendidas, pois, segundo dados do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE, 2012), as mulheres representam 45,4% da atual força de trabalho brasileira. A importância crescente das mulheres no mercado de trabalho traz para as organizações o desafio de atrair e reter essa parcela da força de trabalho, cujas demandas não são necessariamente iguais às dos homens. A escassez de estudos acerca das expectativas relacionadas à carreira de mulheres da denominada Geração Y motivou a realização do presente trabalho, que procurou entender os anseios das jovens no que diz respeito à construção de suas trajetórias profissionais. Para responder a essas indagações, realizou-se uma pesquisa qualitativa, entrevistando-se jovens nascidas entre 1980 e 2000. Buscou-se compreender o que essas profissionais esperam de sua inserção no mercado de trabalho. Os resultados da análise confirmam parte das descrições da literatura recente sobre os Yrs, pois as entrevistadas se revelaram desejosas de sucesso, reconhecimento profissional e remuneração atraente, mas também sinalizam divergências, indicando algumas especificidades do gênero expressas nas ponderações feitas pelas jovens com relação à dedicação ao trabalho quando se tornarem mães e esposas
