DETERMINANTS OF ENTREPRENEURIAL INTENTION: A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN INDONESIA AND AUSTRALIA

This study proposes to use the Theory of Planned Behavior to predict entrepreneurial intentions among students in Indonesia and Australia. The purpose is to investigate whether entrepreneurial intention and its antecedents differ between developing and developed countries, and to test the theory in these countries. A total of 336 students in Indonesia and Australia participated in this study by responding to a self - administered questionnaire. Structural equation modelling was used to analyze the data. The findings indicate that subjective norms, perceived entrepreneurial behavior control, risk – taking propensity, self –efficacy, and university environment & support have positive and significant influence on entrepreneurial intention in Indonesia. While the attitude towards entrepreneurial behavior in has a positive and insignificant influence on entrepreneurial intention in Indonesia. On the other hand, the attitude towards entrepreneurial behavior, perceived entrepreneurial behavior control, risk – taking propensity, self –efficacy, and university environment & support have positive and significant influence on entrepreneurial intention in Australia. Moreover, the subjective norms has a positive and insignificant influence on entrepreneurial intention in Australia. The findings support the Theory of Planned Behaviour and its antecedents in both Indonesia and Australia. Managerial implications, limitations, and directions for future research are provided in the study
