Artificial Intelligence: Ethical Issues and its Applications in Cyber Security

Artificial Intelligence is becoming an increasingly large part of today’s society. The technology, while still fairly new, impacts peoples’ lives every day. The current technology can be classified as Artificial Narrow Intelligence, and is able to effectively perform one task. ANI, however, is weak compared to the theoretical Artificial General Intelligence, which is proposed to be able to surpass human cognition. Topics including how AI works and learns, its risks, and its applications in cybersecurity are discussed in this paper. Cybersecurity is a branch of computer science dedicated to the defense of computer systems from malicious attacks and exploits from hackers. Artificial intelligence is already playing a crucial role in this field, being implemented to monitor anomalous events on a network to detect intrusions. While the technology offers benefits to many fields and industries, its implementation has created a number of new ethical challenges. These challenges include the bias that can be implanted in AI programs by their human creators, how more advanced and less advanced AI would respond to ethical dilemmas, and the possible ethical issues of implementing the technology into a field such as cybersecurity. However, the technology is still developing, and these threats may be neutralized. It is important to realize that the benefits of implementing AI into society outweigh the possible threats, and that AI is likely going to have a significant impact on the future of humanity
