A Conversation about Fred Gray, Dr. King\u27s First Civil Rights Lawyer

Darlene Clark Hine, Board of Trustees Professor of African American Studies and Professor of History at Northwestern University, and Jonathan Entin, Professor of Law and Political Science and Associate Dean of Case Western Reserve Law School, will discuss the work of Fred Gray, Dr. King\u27s first civil rights lawyer and counsel to Rosa Parks. Dr. Hine has done extensive research on Fred Gray\u27s career, which evolved into Gray\u27s autobiography Bus Ride to Justice. Professor Entin has published an analysis of Gray\u27s civil rights work. Each of them has known and worked with Fred Gray for 30 years. This session will examine the relationship between the Montgomery bus boycott and the litigation challenging the state and local laws requiring racial segregation on the city\u27s buses and assessment of the overall impact of Dr. King\u27s first civil rights lawyer
