Skripsi ini memaparkan pandangan Chuck Palahniuk terhadap pentingnya ‘subyektivitas’ untuk mencapai kehidupan yang lebih autentik, sebagaimana dipaparkan dengan jelas dalam novelnya yang berjudul Choke. Dengan mengaplikasikan pendekatan eksistensialisme, terutama konsep autentisitas dan subyektivitas dari para eksistensialis seperti Soren Kierkegaard, dan Jean-Paul Sartre, penulis menemukan bahwa hubungan interpersonal tokoh utama dengan lingkungan sekitarnya telah mempengaruhi pola pikir dan sikapnya dalam memaknai kehidupan. Selain itu, penulis menemukan bahwa subyektivitas dapat mempengaruhi penerimaan atau penolakannya terhadap realitas.
