Thin Films Module

Module DescriptionDuring this module, created by the Center for Nanotechnology Education (Nano-Link), students learn about the optical properties of thin films. "Students will perform an experiment where they will apply a thin film to a piece of card stock paper. The students can then observe the optical properties of the thin film." Student outcomes from this module include learning about Snell's Law, reflection, refraction, and applications of thin films interference. Module Contents:This module includes a lesson guide, a PowerPoint presentation, and two related documents.The 9-page guide includes background information on thin film interference, a hands-on learning activity, links to multimedia resources, and further readings.The PowerPoint presentation includes background information on light and its interaction with matter.The other two documents include a diagram showing how to work through the module and module alignments with learning standards. Versions in Spanish are also included for most of the module documents. For orientation purposes ThinFilms - Nano-Link.pdf is included as a separate attachment and offers a sample of the type of material included in this module. Below is a list of the files contained within the .zip attachments.
