Divulgación de Ciencia y Tecnología: los límites del enfoque técnico en las nanotecnologías

Popularization of Science and Technology (S & T) represents a form of communication intended to engage non-experts in scientific-technological subjects. If we recognize that S & T are not produced in the vacuum -but that arise in a specific social context and also influence their social environment- social aspects of S & T should be a key element for popularization. But usually this is not the case; there is a big difference between the technical approach and the social approach to the analysis of S & T. The vast majority of popularization programs reflects a purely technical approach and therefore do not cover many of the concerns and expectations of organized sectors of civil society. After a theoretical presentation, this paper will illustrate the argument with the example of the popularization of nanotechnologies.La divulgación de la ciencia y tecnología (C&T) representa una modalidad de comunicación dedicada a acercar temas científico-tecnológicos a personas no expertas, quienes los aprovecharán con fines diferentes a los que les dieron origen. Si reconocemos que la C&T no se producen en el vacío -sino que surgen en un contexto social específico y, además, influyen en su entorno social- los aspectos sociales de la C&T deberían ser un elemento clave para su divulgación. Sin embargo generalmente esto no es así, existe una gran diferencia entre el enfoque técnico y el enfoque social en el análisis de la C&T. La gran mayoría de los programas de divulgación reflejan un enfoque exclusivamente técnico y, por tanto, no cubren muchas de las preocupaciones y expectativas de los sectores organizados de la sociedad civil.
