The emergence of the so-called primitive masking its way into the art world of the twentieth century brought with it an alluring mystique which intrigued numerous artists and consequently provoked its appropriation. Specifically, the tribal can be seen in the works of Pablo Picasso as he imbues the geometric facades of Afro- Iberian masks, with shamanistic powers.
