Scientific English has its own characteristics and international writers should know them. The detection of these characteristics can help writers to communicate more fluently in English as a lingua franca. In this study, linguistic variations of noun phrases and verb phrases as found in scientific texts are going to be analysed in order to determine whether standard English is used by English writers and by Spanish writers of English.
