Intimate partner violence (IPV) and HIV are intersecting epidemics in South Africa (SA). Despite recognition that IPV and HIV are bidirectionallylinked, less attention has been given to mental health – a key health condition that is at the nexus of both violence and HIV/AIDS.While SA healthcare professionals have made great strides in treating HIV, the corresponding conditions of IPV and mental health receivefar less clinical care. Treating mental health has the potential to positively effect HIV care and treatment, but is also a powerful gateway toenhanced comprehensive health in patients.
