Dr. George Bender was a University of Arizona Professor of Pharmacy, and author of the series, "Great Moments in Pharmacy." Dr. Bender wrote the series from 1948 to 1964 while associated with Parke, Davis, & Co., Detroit pharmaceutical firm. Thom and Bender traveled more than 250,000 miles during the eight years it took them to produce the paintings
