Research has demonstrated that outdoor education has a positive impact on student academic success as reflected in grades and test scores and retention of knowledge as well as problem solving skills, engagement, and social emotional growth. It has also been shown through research that the greatest barriers to outdoor education arise from teacher concerns about safety, loss of expert status, and lack of time and space.
