Harvey M. Rice graduated from Concord College in Athens, West Virginia, in 1929. He earned a master’s degree at West Virginia University in 1933, and a Ph.D. in History at Ohio State University in 1938. He was a Navy veteran of WWII and taught high school and college history courses when the war ended. Dr. Harvey Rice was named president of the State Teachers College in Oswego, N.Y. in 1947. Three years later, he became the second president of the State University College at Buffalo (which was then known as the State University College for Teachers at Buffalo), a position he held until he was named the 10th president of Macalester College in St. Paul Minnesota.
