The original of these two essays translated here into Japanese is WHITE HEAD\u27S PHILOSOPHY: Selected Essays 1935-1970, which was written by Charles Hartshorne. In this volume he has gathered together a number of pieces pre. viously available only in widely scattered places; one was written newly as the introductory chapter of the collected papers, but the other was first printed in Adas : Secondo Congreso Exlraordinario Interamericano de Filosofia 22-26 July, 1961. pp 167 - 68, The latter appears as Chapter 8 of the collected papers. The volume as a whole ref lects a combination of interests in Whitehead\u27s Metaphysics that he has maintained for more than thirty years.
