In this paper the design of Genetic Algorithm (GA) based Proportional Integral (PI) controller is proposed using Mutual Aid Criterion (MAC) based technique. In this method the PI controller is constructed and tuned using MAC techniques. As the GA is a powerful optimum search technique, the salient advantage is that it is high insensitivity to large load changes and disturbances even in the presence of plant parameter variations and system nonlinearities under load following variations. The proposed method is simulated for a two-area power system for thermal power systems, interconnected with AC-DC tie-lines.
