In this article, the characteristics are described which a good mortar must have, comparing the water retaining capacity of the different types of mortar, as well as the necessary strength for making them slide against their internal cohesion (shearing threshold). For this, different proportions, cements, lime, aggregates, water and different additives were used, which met the appropriate standards, making the necessary tests, and the results of which have been gathered in extremely useful tables.Se describen en este artículo las características que debe reunir un buen mortero, comparando la capacidad de retención de agua de las diferentes clases de aquéllos, así como la fuerza necesaria para hacerlos deslizar en contra de su cohesión interna (umbral de cizalladura). Para ello se han utilizado dosificaciones, cementos, cales, áridos, agua y aditivos diversos que cumplan las debidas normas de recepción, realizándose los ensayos que han sido necesarios y cuyos resultados se han recogido en tablas de gran utilidad
