Sobre la edificación en arcillas expansivas

The different problems that building on expansive clay presents are studied in this article and which do not have as complete and precise an answer as builders would need today. The lack of theoretical methods that would allow us to have feasible results about the possible danger of an expansive soil, and the fact that with land studies using laboratory tests — especially when these are made with inalterable samples — certain important results are obtained, but they are incomplete, and bring us to the conclusion that the analysis of local building experience and of the damages and deformations of the existing works, and also field measurements constitute the best information over the possibility and way of building on this kind of soil.En este artículo se estudian los diferentes problemas que plantea la edificación en arcillas expansivas, los cuales, hoy en día, no tienen una respuesta todo lo completa y precisa que necesitarían los constructores. La falta de métodos teóricos que nos permitan obtener resultados fiables sobre la posible peligrosidad de un suelo expansivo y el hecho de que, con el estudio del terreno mediante ensayos de laboratorio —especialmente cuando éstos se hacen con muestras inalteradas— se consiguen ciertos resultados importantes pero incompletos, nos llevan a la conclusión de que el análisis de la experiencia local de edificación y de los daños y deformaciones de las obras existentes, así como las mediciones de campo, constituyen la mejor información sobre la posibilidad y el modo de construir en este tipo de suelos
