International Law provides a foundation for what an American lawyer should know about international law and cultural differences in an era of rapid globalization. It introduces the international legal system\u27s nature, major principles, and institutions, the relationship between international and domestic law, and the role of law in promoting world public order. It will examine jurisdiction, the jurisprudential underpinnings of law, treaty making and effect, recognition of states and governments, nationality of persons and corporations, and international legal dispute resolution. The course will bring these foundational principles together to see how the international legal system attempts to address international problems such as sovereignty over resources, protection of human rights, and the use of force.
