The Malta Dam consists of three consecutive units, united by means of pressure galleries. The upper and the lower steps are balancing tanks with a capacity of 1,800,000 and 500,000 m2, respectively. The middle step is a great vaulted dam of 200 m height, of 200 million m2 capacity, with a crest length of 600 m, and is therefore one of the largest dams in the world of its kind. This hydroelectric group will be able to provide annually approximately 900 million kW/h, by using exclusively the natural flow of the river Malta and its tributaries.
