The Impact of Implementing Nonverbal Behavior Management Strategies Into An Elementary Classroom

The research question addressed in this project was, what impact do nonverbal behavior management strategies have on an elementary classroom? The motivating factor for this capstone was the struggle to find a behavior management system that worked in a new teacher’s elementary classroom. This capstone details nonverbal behavior management techniques, how to best implement them into practice, and how to track their results on a classroom’s culture. The author details the successes of implementing nonverbal management techniques into a classroom and concludes that 1) nonverbal management is effective at shortening transition time and increasing student time on task; 2) while there are benefits to implementing nonverbal strategies, to be effective it need to be implemented with fidelity and with consistent coaching and feedback for the teacher
