The research question addressed in this project was, what reading strategies can be authentically utilized in a general music class setting, and what affect will these purposefully instructed strategies have on students\u27 literacy achievement? This project was the pairing of the writer\u27s primary passion and training in music with subsequent training and parallels found in literacy. Analogous teaching strategies were identified through a review of literature, and five were chosen for implementation in the music classroom: 1) displaying text 2) rhyming activities 3) corresponding read-alouds 4) writing and prewriting activities 5) utilizing cross-context language.
