A case for teaching more organic chemistry and biochemistry at the high school level

This capstone explores the benefits of teaching more organic chemistry and biochemistry to meet the needs of a wider group of students in a high school chemistry course. Significant evidence exists to justify the integration of organic and biochemistry into a traditionally inorganic first year high school chemistry course. The same concepts and standards can be met in a chemistry course that expands the curriculum to include topics that will be more meaningful and beneficial to all students. A full-year organic and biochemistry course is also introduced to offer advanced science students a college-level introduction to organic and biochemistry for concurrent enrollment college credit
