The research question addressed in this capstone was, how can the concept of classroom community be incorporated within a curriculum for pre-kindergarten learners? It documents the research suggesting the importance of developing social/emotional skills in the early childhood years. The author, influenced by the following four theories brain-based education, emotional intelligence, multiple intelligence and progressive education, creates a comprehensive pre-kindergarten curriculum. This eight-week curriculum uses three key components of the Responsive Classroom model: Morning meeting, Academic choice and Reporting to Parents.
