The essential elements to a successful guided reading program in kindergarten for linguistically advanced students

The research question addressed in this project is: what are the essential elements to a successful guided reading program in kindergarten for linguistically advanced students? The motivation behind researching this capstone was the result of having more kindergarten students coming into kindergarten each year with reading readiness skills and some students already emergent readers. Many kindergarten teachers do not have curriculum to guide these early readers. The theory of Howard Gardner\u27s Multiple Intelligences and C. Wood\u27s ideas on child development help guide the reasoning of advanced readers at an early age, while the philosophies on guided reading by I.C. Fountas and G.S. Pinnell provide many strategies on how to work with readers of various levels. The author provides ideas on how to set up a literature based classroom for different leveled readers at the kindergarten level, along with ideas of small group and whole group lesson plans
