The research question addressed is: how much has literacy in kindergarten changed throughout the years? The motivating factor for this capstone was the author\u27s struggle with creating a literacy-rich kindergarten classroom that was developmentally appropriate for her students. The capstone documents the history of kindergarten, current trends in kindergarten literacy, pros of the literacy push, and finally cons of the literacy push. Key influences for this capstone include Fountas and Pinnell, Tompkins, Fischer, Wilford, and Jacobson.
