The benefits of taking students into the boundary waters canoe area wilderness

The research question addressed in this capstone is what are the benefits of taking students into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness? The methodology to answer the question included self-reported surveys and journal entries completed b y the students, field experiences conducted by the students and objective observations made by the researcher. Literature both supporting and refuting the question is presented along with the numerical data collected during the research study. Conclusions from the study include an awareness of the environment in the BWCAW as well as the environment in their everyday life, survival knowledge gained while in training and during the trip, confidence gained in themselves and their teams, friendships built, life skills learned and numerical data gathered
