How high school seniors of different racial groups perceive the benefits and challenges of attending a diverse school community

This study answers the question How do high school seniors of different racial groups perceive the benefits and challenges of attending a diverse school community? The author synthesized the research-supported benefits and challenges to students of attending a racially diverse high school, then surveyed and interviewed high school seniors in one medium-sized racially diverse public high school to see if they agreed or disagreed that they have benefited or have had challenges in said way. The study then compares perceptions by racial group, to see if perceptions of the benefits and challenges of a diverse school depend on race. At a time when schools are becoming more racially diverse, the author felt there was a hole in the literature as far as what students thought about attending a diverse school. For the reader, this study emphasizes the student voice, their stories and experiences from attending a racially diverse school
