Laurier T. “Larry” Raymond, Jr. was born in Lewiston, Maine on May 7, 1932. He grew up in Lewiston where his father was involved in Lewiston politics as city controller. Larry attended Wallace, Jordan and then Lewiston High School. Per advice from Frank Coffin, Raymond attended Washington and Lee University for undergraduate as well as law school. He finished both after six years and was commissioned 2nd lieutenant in the artillery. He spent six months at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and then six months as trust officer for the First National Trust and Savings Bank, Lynchburg, Virginia.
